Injection Molding Simulation

As part of a polymer manufacturing group project, my team and I conducted an injection molding simulation focused on optimizing the production of a simplified 2x2 LEGO brick. Using Moldex3D, two gate and runner designs were analyzed, with the central pin gate design having a more optimal performance in terms of uniform density, fewer weld lines, and efficient cooling. Further process optimizations tested variations in packing time and pressure, and we concluded that increased packing time produced a more uniform part density and reduced shrinkage. This project provided hands-on experience in injection molding design and simulation and technical problem-solving which can both be applied to design engineering and manufacturing settings.
